This species is a common choice of algae-eating snail among
freshwater aquarists. In an aquarium, the shell of this species
grows to about 2.5 cm (one inch) in diameter. This snail prefers an
aquarium temperature of 22 to 26°C. The snail will venture to the
top of the aquarium, and come out of the water from time to time.

Difficult to sex. Not hermaphrodites, so need a male and
female counterpart in order to reproduce. Growth rate is
slow (a single egg once a month or so) and eggs are laid
singly under water and are often eaten by other tank mates.
So typically very slow breeders.
Tank Compatibility/ Environment Specifications
A peaceful snail, will not bother
tank inhabitants. However, should not be kept with
aggressive fish that may attack it such as Loaches or
Pufferfish. Needs a spacious well oxygenated tank with
plenty of algae to eat. If put in a new tank with no algae
present and not supplemented, it can starve. A tight fitting
lid is a must as these snails can be escape artists. An
attractive snail that will not multiply. They may lay eggs
however, but they will not hatch, young need brackish
conditions and are difficult to rear in captivity.
This snail is a great algae eater. Generally will not touch
plants and will eat most types of algae. If no algae is
present the snail will have to be supplemented with blanched
